Assistant Financial Controller Fapi Vacancy

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly organised and analytical Assistant Financial Controller to support the Financial Controller in overseeing financial operations, reporting, compliance, and internal controls across assigned business units.

The role requires strong technical accounting knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to assist in maintaining financial integrity and governance standards. The ideal candidate will contribute to accurate reporting, structured financial management, and continuous improvement of financial processes within the Group.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting & Control

  • Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts and financial statements.
  • Support the review of general ledger reconciliations, accruals, and journal entries.
  • Ensure accurate posting of transactions and maintenance of accounting records.
  • Assist in conducting variance analysis and preparing financial commentary.
  • Support timely month-end and year-end closing processes.

Budgeting & Monitoring

  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts.
  • Monitor expenditure against approved budgets.
  • Support business units with cost control and financial monitoring.
  • Prepare supporting schedules and financial projections as required.

Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure adherence to internal financial controls and procedures.
  • Assist in VAT, tax filings, and statutory reporting requirements.
  • Support audit processes and liaise with external auditors.
  • Maintain proper documentation to ensure audit readiness.
  • Support implementation of financial policies aligned with Group governance.

Cash Flow & Working Capital Support

  • Assist in monitoring cash flow positions and liquidity requirements.
  • Review receivables and payables reconciliations.
  • Support credit control and supplier payment processes.
  • Assist in bank reconciliations and treasury administration.

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Support enhancements to the Group’s accounting systems and processes.
  • Maintain structured financial records and reporting templates.
  • Assist in improving internal workflows and financial controls.

Team & Cross-Department Coordination

  • Provide support and guidance to junior accounting staff where applicable.
  • Coordinate with procurement, HR, and operational departments on financial matters.
  • Assist in responding to internal financial queries and reporting requirements.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree or in the process of acquiring in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • ACCA / ACA partly qualified or in progress.
  • 3 to 5 years of accounting or finance experience.
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting standards and tax compliance.
  • Experience within a group structure is preferred.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and advanced MS Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Fluency in spoken Maltese is mandatory due to regular interaction with local operational teams, drivers, suppliers, and key stakeholders.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Experience in automotive, hospitality, property, or trading sectors would be considered as an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail and structured working methodology.
  • High level of integrity and confidentiality.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Good communication and coordination skills.
