Cost Controller Fundamental Vacancy

Position Overview:

The Cost Controller will play a key role in monitoring, analysing, and controlling costs across a highly diversified business with multiple entities, projects, and operational activities. The role requires strong analytical capability and the ability to work across different business units to ensure effective cost management, accurate reporting, and support strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and control costs across multiple business units, projects, and entities.
  • Prepare, review, and maintain budgets and cost forecasts for diverse operations.
  • Analyse cost variances, identify trends, and provide clear explanations and recommendations.
  • Develop and maintain cost allocation methodologies between departments and entities.
  • Prepare consolidated cost reports and management dashboards.
  • Track commitments, expenditures, and accruals across the business.
  • Support procurement and contract management by reviewing supplier costs, quotations, and payment claims.
  • Work closely with operational managers to understand cost drivers and improve cost efficiency.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure adherence to internal financial controls, policies, and procedures.
  • Assist with audits by providing cost-related analysis and documentation.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Fluency in spoken Maltese is mandatory due to regular interaction with local operational teams, suppliers, and stakeholders.
  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a Cost Controller, Management Accountant, or similar role.
  • Experience working in a diversified or multi-entity business environment is essential.
  • Exposure to multiple sectors (e.g. real estate, construction, hospitality, retail, services) is an advantage.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage and interpret complex financial data across different operations.
  • Excellent Excel skills and experience with ERP or accounting systems.
  • High attention to detail with a strong commercial mindset.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage multiple workstreams simultaneously.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work with both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
