Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Quantity Surveyor with experience in excavation and demolition projects. The role will focus on cost estimation, tendering, contract management, and financial oversight, ensuring that projects are delivered within budget while maintaining compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

Cost Estimation & Tendering

  • Prepare accurate cost estimates, bills of quantities (BOQ), and tender documents for excavation and demolition projects.
  • Analyze drawings, site conditions, and project specifications to determine material, labour, plant, and disposal requirements.
  • Assess risks and provide options to optimize costs.
  • Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain quotations and evaluate pricing.

Contract & Commercial Management

  • Draft, review, and manage contracts with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Monitor contract compliance and advise on potential risks.
  • Evaluate and negotiate variations, claims, and change orders.
  • Ensure all financial and contractual matters are handled in line with company policies and legal requirements.

Project Cost Control & Reporting

  • Track and control project expenditures throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Monitor plant and equipment utilization to optimize costs.
  • Provide cost reports for management.

Site & Operational Support

  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, and site supervisors to ensure accurate cost monitoring.
  • Conduct site visits to verify progress, measurements, and compliance.
  • Oversee waste management cost allocation, including tipping, hauling, and recycling charges.
  • Ensure health, safety, and environmental requirements are factored into cost planning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in the construction industry or other related fields.
  • Strong knowledge of construction contracts (FIDIC, NEC, or local standards).
  • Proficiency in QS and cost management software.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work with multiple stakeholders and meet deadlines under pressure.

Preferred Attributes

  • Experience with hazardous material removal (e.g., asbestos, contaminated soil).
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and waste disposal compliance.
  • Strong communication skills for liaising with clients, subcontractors, and regulators.
  • Professional accreditation (RICS, AIQS, CIQS, or equivalent) is an advantage.
